Engineering & Computer Science Advising

The College of Engineering and Computer Science's (ECS) Advising, Counseling, and Tutoring (ACT) Office is dedicated to engaging with students to improve student success and enhance each student’s academic and career aspirations through meaningful, customized advising services. The ACT Office improves the student experience by facilitating access to needed resources and expands student opportunities to achieve academic success.

Advising Services
The College of Engineering and Computer Science ACT Office offers and staff can provide assistance with the following advising-related topics:
- General Education & Graduation Requirements (GE/GR)
- Lower-division major/pre-major advising
- Questions about ECS Advising Center 1st year and 2nd year registration holds
- Interpretation of University academic policies
- Referrals to other campus resources
- Assist with transferring courses from Community Colleges and attending Summer Semester

Staff Advisor Drop-In Hours
Drop-ins will be held via Zoom (see zoom link below) as well as in person in Tschannen Engineering Teaching and Research Building (formerly Santa Clara Hall) (TEB 1213). Please see times below as they may differ for zoom vs in person.

Instructions To Join:
- Click on the "SSO" option either in the Zoom desktop app or in the browser.
- The domain is CSUS.zoom.us. Then log in with your CSUS username and password.
Drop-ins are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Drop-ins are for:
- Current undergraduate students with questions regarding general education, graduation requirements, lower division major or pre-major requirements, registration, and policies and procedures.
New students are asked to attend their new student orientation before attending drop-in hours.
Upper division students (major courses numbered 100-199) needing major advising receive major advising from their major faculty. See information below on Faculty Advisors.
MESA students receive advising from the MESA Advisors, Alex Blaise and Luis Santiago. See information below in MESA Advising section.
Graduate students should meet with their major advisors.
Please have your student ID # and microphone ready prior to attending zoom drop-ins. Please bring your Sac State OneCard to in person drop-ins.

Faculty Advisors
Faculty Advisors focus on the upper division for their specific major. ECS students in the DEGREES program may meet with the DEGREES Advisor.

First & Second Year Advising Appointment
In Fall 2024, second-year ECS majors will be required to complete ECS 2nd Year Advising with an ECS Professional Advisor. Please check emails sent by Alisa Patterson to schedule an appointment using the link in the campaign email. Email alisa.patterson@7670f.com for any questions.
In Spring 2025, first-year and second-year ECS majors will be required to complete ECS 1st Year Advising and ECS 2nd Year Advising with an ECS Professional Advisor. Information will be sent out the 3rd week of the spring 2025 semester.
